Happy Holidays

It’s hard to believe that the exams season start this week. We’ve all been overcoming some type of challenge this year, many of us multiple major challenges. However, exam season means that there is a break soon looming over all of us, time away from Zoom meetings, assignments, and online tests and quizzes. It’s the time that students and staff should take to recharge to prepare for the January start of the next term.

However, for some, that may be difficult. Maybe tensions are high in your home right now due to everyone being in close quarters with everyone, getting away more difficult and it is becoming harder to find time for yourself. Perhaps friend groups and your usual social supports are not as available as they used to be or in the capacity that works best for you. Maybe the holidays are an even more stressful time.

Additionally, we don’t know what the situation of the colour zones will be when it is the week of Christmas. Right now, for some, you may feel more comfortable holding off on the small Christmas gatherings until into the New Year. And that’s fine; you should be able to open the conversation with those you care for about the risks for you right now or when the time comes. Maybe you are going to have a small get together if your area moves into a more favourable situation, which is great if you are following the guidelines. But let’s remember the reason of the Winter holiday.

It’s a time to recharge, relax, and take time for yourself. To do things you really enjoy, to forget about school and the stress and anxiety that it can bring. So, if you have time, consider making yourself a little winter bucket list of things you would like to do over the holiday. Maybe you want to start an indoor exercise routine now that you have the time. Maybe this is a time for you to re-connect with friends now that y’all are done with classes. Perhaps some reading is on your list. Whatever it is, do what makes you happy and healthy for the new year.
