Myths & Facts about COVID-19 Relating to Nutrition & Exercise

Information about COVID-19 is increasing everyday as we learn more and more about the virus. Some of the information is very true and some are nothing but lies and myths. This is why it is important to make sure the information you are ingesting is factual and true. So, we are going to try to help you with filtering that information a bit here with what we have seen on social media and hopefully give a peace of mind with the information related to exercise and nutrition.


Info: There are special detoxes and diets that will cause you to be at lower risk of contracting COVID-19.

Myth: This is incredibly false. Don’t buy the detoxes. Don’t subscribe to a diet plan that claims this. Don’t buy into supplements that claim this. The best thing to do it eat the healthiest you can right now.

Info: Exercise will help you fight the virus.

Factual Myth: Exercise in general helps with general decrease risk of becoming sick and developing disease. It was originally thought that this was a virus for the older population and chronic illness population, however, we now know that this is not true. Young, healthy, and fit people are developing serious symptoms so we are unsure. But, that doesn’t mean to stop exercising. Exercise is important for general health and wellness so if you are exercising, continue to do so.

Info: You should wash your groceries with soap and water.

Factual Myth: It is recommended that you wipe down the containers of your groceries with a disinfectant wipe before you put them away. There is no need to wash your fruits and vegetables and meat products with soap and water. Your stomach acid will destroy the virus for you.
